Jamie Vardy’s Italian Job Comes With an Unlikely Commute

After completing his surprise move to Serie A newcomers Cremonese, Jamie Vardy has now raised eyebrows with an equally unexpected choice of residence. Instead of settling in Cremona, the Leicester legend has opted to base his family in the lakeside town of Salò on Lake Garda.

The decision means Vardy will face an 80km commute to training and matches, but the lure of tranquillity won out. According to Giornale di Brescia, he had considered making Brescia his home, before ultimately deciding that the smaller, quieter Salò offered a better lifestyle for his family.

It may not be entirely out of the blue. Eighteen months ago, Vardy and his wife Rebekah attended a match in Como, an experience that may have given them a taste for the lakeside Dolce Vita.

Famous among holidaymakers for its lively promenade, beaches, and rolling hills, Salò also carries a darker historical note: it served as the capital of Mussolini’s Italian Social Republic between 1943 and 1945.

Ironically, while Vardy arrives, senior football has just vanished from the town. Feralpisalò, the local club, was controversially relocated to Brescia this summer, rebranded with new colours, crest, and identity to replace the bankrupt city side.

Vardy is poised to make his debut for Cremonese from the bench in Monday’s night clash with Verona.
